Description

Gunung Padang is a prehistoric megalithic cultural heritage site located at the border of Gunung Padang and Panggulan hamlets in Karyamukti Village, Campaka District, Cianjur Regency. It lies approximately 20 kilometers from the Warungkondang sub-district intersection, at an altitude of 885 meters above sea level.

The main complex covers about 900 square meters, within a site area of roughly 3 hectares. The site features five terraces of varying sizes, with the first terrace being the largest and containing the majority of megalithic stones. It is believed to have been a place of worship dating back to around 8000 BC and is considered contemporaneous with the Göbekli Tepe site in Turkey.

Local tradition associates Gunung Padang with King Prabu Siliwangi, who is said to have tried to build a palace there overnight. Research indicates possible musical use of some stones and confirms Gunung Padang as the largest stepped punden complex in Southeast Asia.

Surrounded by mountain views and fresh air, the site attracts both local and international visitors. Although the area lacks extensive tourist facilities, it presents significant opportunities for regional tourism development.
