Description
Your guide will pick you up at 9 AM to begin the tour. The first stop is the National Museum of Indonesia, commonly called 'Museum Gajah' or 'Elephant Museum' due to the bronze elephant statue in its yard, a gift from King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) of Thailand in 1871.
Next, visit Kota Tua or Oud Batavia, the old town area dating back to 1526. It was renamed Jayakarta by commander Fatahillah after capturing Sunda Kelapa Harbor from the Portuguese. You will then visit Sunda Kelapa Harbor, established in 1527, which remains an active port for inter-island and international shipping.
The tour continues to Jakarta’s Chinatown, a historic ethnic Chinese community playing a key role in the city’s economic development since before European arrival, encouraged by the Dutch East India Company (VOC).
After Chinatown, you will visit Monas (National Monument), an iconic symbol of Jakarta and Indonesia’s independence struggle. The final stops include the Jakarta Cathedral, established in 1892 and inaugurated in 1901, and the nearby Istiqlal Mosque.
